TONINHO RAMOS, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was born into a family of musicians. He discovered his passion for the guitar at the age of seven. As a child prodigy, his composer-interpreter talents appeared during his first concerts in which he interpreted his original compositions as well as classsical and popular pieces. His musical research has always been driven by the constant desire of discovering new sounds, fresh harmonies and innovative techniques.
Toninho Ramos combines the elements of traditional, brazilian, classical, free-jazz and atonal music culminating into a contemporary style which incorporates the polyrythmics and harmonies reminiscent of the colors of the Amazon.
Notably, this composer beyond compare who is also an exceptional instrumentalist has the astonishing ability to improvise evoking a spontaneous performance where gentleness and passion, intelligence and playfulness, love and tenderness, melancholy and despair coexist, emanate and blend into these warm and deep sounds, the secret of which he is the only owner.
His formidable virtuosity on his signature seven string guitar and genius for composing are unanimously acknowledged by the music critics and, most importantly, by his fellow musicians with whom he performed : Vinicius de Moraes, Airto Moreira, Nana Vasconcelos, Hermeto Pascoal, Baden Powell, Cesarius Alvim, Luiz Gonzaga, Tania Maria, to name a few.
